Hair Care Trends Revealed by Google

In its recent Think With Google report, the search engine giant revealed some key hair care trends from 2015, one of which is the rising popularity of braids. According to Google, braids are the single most trending hairstyle for women, with users searching for a styles like “box braids” and “goddess braids.” So, what other hair care trends were revealed in Google’s report?

Grey and Purple

Looking to sport a bold new color for your hairstyle? Well, you aren’t alone. In the Think With Google report, Google revealed that more and more women and men are searching for unique hair color styles like grey and purple. In the past, most people have chosen to avoid grey hair, as it’s a sign of aging. But this trend appears to be going in the opposite direction, as this report reveals a steadily increasing search volume for grey and purple hairstyles.

Maintenance

In addition to searching for actual examples and pictures of grey and purple hair, users are also searching for ways on how to maintain their new hair color. Sporting a new hair color is a great way to change your appearance, but it only works if you know how to properly care for your new hairstyle.

Mobile Searches

Of course, there’s also a growing trend towards the use of mobile devices for researching hairstyles and colors. Approximately the 85% of all Google searches related to braids were performed on smartphones and mobile devices, and roughly 80% of all hair color searches were performed on mobile devices.  It’s now easier and more convenient to perform searches on a smartphone than desktop, which is why so many people are choosing to use their mobile device for Internet searches.

These are just a few notable hair care search trends. Whether you’re planning to try one of the aforementioned hair styles/colors or not, you should consider the following when choosing a new hairstyle:

  • Is it easy to maintain?
  • Will it work with my particular hair?
  • How much time will it take to style in the morning?
  • Is this hairstyle suitable for my job?
  • Is this hairstyle currently trending?
  • How much hair product does the new style require?
  • Can my stylist “recreate” it?

Answering these questions will give you a better idea of which hairstyle is right for you. Of course, the most important factor to consider is whether or not you are comfortable with the new style. If you don’t feel comfortable and confident with it, you should skip it and move on to the next hairstyle.
